grandfather

Last night, my grandfather passed away.

The man was made of iron. He joined the Navy when he was young and had the tattoos to prove it.

I never once heard him raise his voice, although he could cuss like a sailor.

He built the house he lived in most of his life.

He loved walking for miles for the sheer joy of it.

He taught me about deep-sea fishing.

He was a devout husband, a stern father, and a loving grandparent.

I have never seen him do a single petty or hateful thing; he was, quite possibly, the most decent human being I have ever met.

Salut, Bumpy.

  1. I wanted to send you my deepest sympathy on your loss. The world needs more people like the man you’ve talked about. You are lucky indeed to have known him so well and his memory will live on through you.

    Take good care of yourself.

  2. sorry for youre loss. .he must had been a big part of your life. must had been special to you. I dont remember my grandfathers from both sides of my family. They both died before i was born. So never would really understand what you are probably missing right now or how you are feeling. But my sympathies are with you and will pray for his soul to rest in peace. Reading what you had written about him made him special for me too.
    Take Care..

  3. There is a sacredness in tears.
They are not the mark of weakness,
    but of power.
    They speak more eloquently
    than 10,000 tongues.
    They are the messengers
    of overwhelming grief,
    of deep contrition,
    and of unspeakable love.
