Counting Candles

Thirty. A threshold of sorts.

When I was fourteen I used to look at the years between me and twenty and they were forever. I had all the time in the world. It is said that time speeds up as you get older. Is it because there is less wonder in the world for the experienced? Less things to hold onto, to peg as memorable?

I know there there is greatness beyond thirty; I have seen it. And I aim to find it.

Now, close your eyes and listen.

  1. Happy Birthday, D’jaevle. Yes, I can imagine there will be greatness for you beyond thirty. It was most generous of you to record your Scarlet Words, I feel like I have been given the gift. From my perspective, it does seem like time rushes by at far faster pace.

I remember being in my teens and saying out loud how there was no rush, how there was plenty of time. I long to feel that way again.

Eleven years ago I had an infant in my arms, now I have this little woman-child, eager for her independence while still eager for the warm embrace of her mother. I fear the rapidly approaching day when that embrace will feel suffocating to her. I hope it never comes.

  2. But of course.. Happy Late Birthday!
Now those Scarlett Words Those are a rare treat ! thank you .. again
