in the shadow of a minotaur
I came across a supposition.
that the difference between a maze and a labyrinth
is a matter of the heart.
you can get lost in a maze.
but in a labyrinth
so long as you go forward,
you will find the center
if we agree with this supposition
then we must follow the red threaded question it holds
is your heart a maze
holding captive
poor adventurers
incapable of solving it’s mystery
or
a labyrinth
home to just
the one
who put their hand to the wall
closed their eyes
and walked
Just one- or Any one?
Just one.
(assured, known, placed)
But how many must be eaten by bull-touched siblings before one makes it through?
Snacks are quite nice.
One designed as a race,
the other a hunt-
survival will require
both
snacks and sacrifices.

Nice can be devoured by darkness
but endure;
pathways stained with blood
and tears – wept for fear,
procure some kind of
damning
redemption
taking us low,
yet fleeing forward,
always,
onward to our fated salvation.
nice is what we write
in the blood
of innocence
to remind
ourselves
that
even
beasts
know
that kindness
always comes
with a cost
